Public
law is that part of the law which governs relationships between individuals and
the Government. These relations are of direct concern to the society whereas
laws concerning the relationship between individuals is known as private law.
The
administrative law, tax law, criminal law etc. are examples of public law
whereas laws related to marriage, divorce, succession etc. are known as private
laws.
Under
the public law the Government can make decisions and can act within the law as
this law affects the society at large. Private laws affect individuals,
families and small groups.
Private
law is generally based on customs, traditions, religious texts, precedents etc.
and it aims to protect the interests of individuals so that there is no misuse
or abuse of law concerning any individual. Private law as well as public law
are aimed towards efficient, organized and well-organized society.
