Germany is officially known as the Federal Republic of Germany. Basic
Law of Germany contains all the features of a constitution but the term Basic
Law intends to show the provisional nature of this law but yet the Basic Law is
very significant and effective in its functioning. It is the people of Germany
who in exercise of their constituent power, have adopted the Basic Law.
According to the Basic Law the human dignity is inviolable. The term
inviolable means something that cannot be dishonored or disrespected. To
respect and protect the human dignity shall be the duty of all state authority.
All persons are equal before the law and all state authority is derived from
the people of Germany.
The federal system in Germany consists of sixteen federal states whose state governments partly take up their own state duties for the people of their respective states. These federal states retain a measure of sovereignty while they work for the people of their state.
