The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is an island
country. United Kingdom is made up of Northern Ireland and Great Britain which
consists of England, Wales and Scotland. The First Minister of Scotland is the head
of the Scottish Government who leads the Government of Scotland. The role of
First Minister of Scotland was established in 1999 as Scotland has its own
governance in certain matters. Bute House in Edinburgh is the official
residence of the First Minister of Scotland and a place which is well known.
Subject to Parliament’s agreement, the First Minister appoints other
ministers including Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretaries in Scotland.
The Scottish Cabinet is chaired and led by the First Minister of Scotland. The
First Minister requires to be a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP in
short).
