The term Legislation is derived from Latin language where the term legislation means declaring legal rules as law by a competent authority. In simple words Legislation means making or preparing laws. This branch is known as legislative branch where the power and responsibility to make laws in-order to regulate the society is given to the elected representatives in India.
The competent authority that is authorized to make or prepare laws is
known as legislature and this competent authority is generally a governmental
body which has been given the power and responsibility to make, amend and
repeal laws.
The persons in the governmental body or the legislature who make laws
are known as legislators. These terms are quite often used in law and also are
important from legal perspective.
Statutes or enacted laws like the Indian Contract Act, The Companies Act
etc. originate from Legislation. Laws are made on behalf of the people by
keeping their concerns, interest and needs as priority.
