The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has a constitutional monarchy with Parliamentary form of Government. The monarch undertakes the constitutional duties as prescribed by the law while the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament of United Kingdom. The two houses of the British Parliament are the House of Lords (Upper House) and the House of Commons (Lower House). They work on behalf of the citizens of UK to make and shape effective laws for the welfare and betterment of the people of UK.
The House of Lords plays an important role in examining bills, questioning government actions i.e., the executive branch and investigating public policy. Members of Parliament (MPs in short) are elected by the people of UK in-order to present the interests, concerns, needs and requirements of the people in the House of Commons. It is the people who are represented in the House of Commons through the representatives who are elected.
Parliament in many countries is the legislative branch of the government which can either be unicameral or bicameral where the elected members meet to debate on issues that affect the people and also to make as well as amend the laws based on the changing circumstances.

After the general election the constitutional monarch of UK calls upon the leader of the party that won most seats to form the government.
